Scouts bring ‘a little Christmas’ to local seniors

Scouts and leaders from Elkhorn’s Boy Scout Troop 243 and Cub Scout Pack 225, visit Sedgemeadow Senior Living Apartments in Elkhorn Dec. 19 to spread some holiday cheer by singing a variety of Christmas carols to the residents.

Scouts from Elkhorn Troop 243 and Cub Scout Pack 225 visited Sedgemeadow Senior Living Apartments in Elkhorn on Dec. 19 to spread holiday cheer.

The scouts received a warm reception, according to troop leaders, and sang a variety of Christmas carols to residents for their final meeting of the year.

The meeting also served as a hand-off for departing Scoutmaster Mike Holmes as he handed the reins over after 4 1/2 years to Carl Harvey who will be the new Scoutmaster beginning in January. Holmes will continue to be involved in scouting, including returning to teach the new Lion Scout program.

“The scouts, parents and adult leaders all wish Mike good luck in his new role and thank him for his continuing years of dedication and service to the program,” a release from Troop 243 states.

For those interested in joining, Cub Scouts can now start as young as Kindergarten in the new Lion program, which they progress through until they’re 11 years old at which point they transition to Boy Scouts.

Troop 243 is chartered by the Elkhorn Lions Club and regularly teams up with the club at fundraising events.
