Whitewater had five wrestlers in the semifinals of the 17-team Mount Horeb Invitationa, with three coming away with championships.

Seniors Tyler Gamble and Jimmy DuVal remained undefeated on the season by winning the championships in their weight classes in the Dec. 16 invite. This is the third week in a row that the top two Whitewater wrestlers won tournament championships.

Gamble, the fifth-ranked individual at 106 in Division 2, pinned his first two opponents and got a decision in the championship match to boost his record to 15-0. DuVal, No. 4 at 182, pinned all three of his challengers and entered the week with 15 wins without a loss. Senior Tyler Sheffield also picked up a championship at 195.

“Tyler (Sheffield) was in a very good match that was also close until the final 45 seconds when he was able to kick it up a notch to secure the championship,” Whitewater coach John Schimming said.

Sophomore Jaden Salmieri lost the championship match at 132. Senior Tommy Cushman won his third-place match.
