Entering this week, second place in the Rock Valley Conference belonged to the Whitewater girls basketball team with a 6-1 record. Big Foot is breathing down the neck of the Whippets at 5-2 and a game behind. It would be a great end-of-the-year present for either team with a victory.
If Whitewater wins on Thursday night against the Chiefs at home, they will remain in sole possession of second place and begin the new year with an eight-game winning streak. The Whippets can circle Jan. 11 on their calendars, if they haven’t already, for the rematch at first-place and undefeated Jefferson. Big Foot may be in the mix for the top spot in the RVC as well.
Whitewater will have the task of trying to deal with sophomore leading scorer Reagan Courier and her 14.9-point average and senior guard Courtney Schoenbeck (14.2). Reagan’s older sister, senior Payton, checks in at nine points per game.
