A residential property adjacent to Starin Park will be turned over to the city later this month for potential future development.

After meeting behind closed doors and discussing the matter, the Common Council on Dec. 5 agreed to the transaction, which carries an $80,000 price tag the seller offered the city. The home and lot are located at 342 N. Fremont Street.

City Manager Cameron Clapper summed up how the various pieces of the proposal came together after deliberations concluded and the council came back into open session.

“The city was approached about the possibility of making the purchase of a home along Fremont Street,” Clapper said. “The offer came in at a purchase price off $80,000. We brought that before the council, and at this time we’re proceeding with an offer to purchase.”

The city proceeded with the offer without negotiating further because the purchase price is below the property’s overall assessed value, based on records, according to municipal officials.
