Wrestlers come back to take seventh at duals

Two tough losses to open action at Saturday’s Tom Manley/Emery Howard Duals put the East Troy High School wrestling team in a bit of a tough spot.

But from there, the Trojans rallied – and three straight victories later, had a solid seventh-place finish locked up.

East Troy fell to Baraboo, 43-33, and Oconomowoc, 39-33, in its own home meet, but picked up victories of 54-21 over Union Grove, 54-24 over Green Bay United and 45-35 over Cedarburg.

Oshkosh West won the team title, followed by Milton, Oconomowoc, Baraboo, West Allis Central and Whitnall. Finishing behind East Troy were Cedarburg, Green Bay, Union Grove, Kenosha Indian Trail and Madison West.

After the 1-2 record in pool play, the Trojans faced off with Green Bay in the first of two matches to determine its final place.

Picking up victories in that dual were Tommy Larson (106), by pin in 1:10; A.J. Hall (113), by pin in 1:11; and Calvin Collins (126), by pin in 3:07.

Winning by forfeit were Joe Moede (120), Kaleb Curler (132), Mason Orgas (138), Jackson Dedick (152), Chase Coleman (160) and Chris Storandt (220).

In the finale against Cedaburg, victories were recorded by Larson (113), by pin in 33 seconds; Collins (126), by pin in 3:16; Dedick (152), 5-2; Coleman (160), by pin in 1:22; Jacob Price (182), by pin in 4:36; Victor Chapman, by pin in 3:51; and Storandt (220), by pin in 1:24. Ian Newhouse (106) had the Trojans’ other victory, by forfeit.

East Troy starts 1-2

In the opener against Baraboo, the Trojans earned three victories on the mat and picked up three by forfeit to account for their 33-point effort.

Earning wins were Jake Dessart (170), 8-1; Storandt (220), by pin in 1:42; and Hall (113), by pin in one minute. Picking up forfeit victories for East Troy were Coleman (160), Austin Pogreba (182) and Larson (106).

The dual with Oconomowoc was tight throughout, but the Trojans dropped their final three matches to account for the difference in the 39-33 setback.

Recording victories for East Troy were Dedick (152), by pin in 5:33; Price (182), by pin in 4:26; Storandt (220), by pin in 1:52; Jacob Mast (285), 9-2; and Larson (113), by pin in 1:57. Newhouse received a forfeit at 106 pounds.

East Troy salvaged a victory in pool play with a dominating, 54-21 effort against Union Grove. The Trojans won nine of the 14 matches.

Earning victories were Storandt (220), by pin in 1:12; Hall (113), by pin in 56 seconds; and Collins (126), by pin in 1:52. Receiving forfeit wins were Coleman (160), Dessart (170), Price (182), Chapman (195), Moede (120) and Curler (132).

The Trojans were back in action Tuesday night against Waukesha Catholic Memorial, followed by the 24-team Battle on the Bay Invitational at Bay Port on Saturday at 9:15 a.m.
