East Troy Family Community and Resource Center Program Director Marolyn Komperud says the Holiday Help of East Troy program is on track and it’s time for the community to step up.

“The application period ended last week and we’re helping 72 families this year,” she said. “Things are going well and all our giving sites are open now.”

Komperud encourages people who wanted to donate stocking stuffers to drop off the new, unwrapped gifts at Rhode’s Towing-Repair-Sales (through Dec. 11) Snap Fitness (through Dec. 10) and Wanezek Family Dentistry (through Dec. 13).

Items needed include: children’s pajamas/socks and underwear in sizes toddler through young adult, children’s hygiene products (soaps, scrubbies, hair ties, shampoo/ conditioner, toothpaste/toothbrushes), new books, and gift cards for teens in $10 increments from 2849 Main, Cousin’s, Gus’s Drive-In, McDonalds, Movie Theatres, Skating, Subway, Walmart, etc.

“We have a lot of teens and preteen this year,” Komperud said. “More than I can ever remember. We’re looking for things like age-appropriate movies and young adult books, movie passes and gift certificates for these kids. I have more than 65 middle school and high school age kids this year, so we really do have a higher number of older kids in need this Christmas.”

Monetary donations are always needed for the $50 grocery and $20 gas cards the families receive, Komperud said.

“We’ve found this really helps the families out this time of year, so we make sure each family has this,” she said.

Anyone who would like to make a monetary donation to support local families in need can send check to: East Troy Family Community Resource Center, P.O. Box 962, East Troy, WI 53120. Note that the donation is for the Holiday Help Program.

The East Troy Family Community Resource Center is a not for profit registered 501C3 organization.
