Literacy Council gets grant from Alliant Energy

The Walworth County Literacy Council received a grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation.

The Literacy Council is a non-profit organization that promotes awareness of literacy needs and collaborates with the local community in developing and providing instruction in basic literacy skills, English as a second language, citizenship preparation and GED preparation. Its jail literacy program instructs inmates in reading, writing and math.

Through the support of donors such as Alliant Energy Foundation, the council is able to address the pressing need of decreasing the county’s illiteracy rate and equipping adults with language and literacy skills that enable them to be productive and self-reliant community members.
