With all the numbers finally in, the East Troy Community School District Board of Education approved a 1.5 percent tax levy increase for this year.

District Business Manager Kathy Zwirgzdas had proposed a 1.94 tax levy increase at the Sept. 25 annual meeting, which was approved by the residents in attendance, but the numbers on state aid and student counts were not available at that time.

“Our state aid was down 3 percent from ’16-17, but I had originally projected an 8 percent decrease,” Zwirgzdas told the board. “We don’t get a lot of state aid compared to other districts and our budget is one-quarter state aid and three-quarters property taxes.”
