Big Foot-Williams Bay senior girls cross country runner Alexandria (Zanzie) Demco has had one goal in mind since the start of the season – a return-trip to the WIAA State Meet.

And not only did she accomplish just that at Saturday’s Deerfield Sectional, she did so with yet another stellar effort.

Demco finished second overall with a time of 19:02.05, that not only cut a minute off her season-best time, but shattered her school record by 55 seconds. Delavan-Darien’s Erin Sorg was first in 18:42.72.

Her finish left coach Tim Collins searching for the right words to describe what he saw.

“In all my years of coaching cross country and track, I have never witnessed a performance like that,” Collins said.
