Members of the City of Elkhorn Common Council expressed support for altering the fee schedule to rent out the Community Center at Matheson Memorial Library during the Oct. 23 Committee of the Whole meeting.

At the meeting, Library Director Lisa Selje said she was proposing the rental application form for the Community Center be changed for the 2018 calendar year.

Selje said where there is currently a $10 per hour fee for use of the kitchen, which is added on top of the hourly fee to rent out the Community Center, under the new rental application, the kitchen fee would simply be included in the overall rental fee.

“What people are doing is they don’t want to pay the extra $10 an hour, so they’re saying they don’t use the kitchen,” she said, noting only about one in six people to fill out an application actually pay the kitchen fee.

“We actually want them to use the kitchen,” Selje said. “Almost every party they use the refrigerator …a lot of the parties, they just bring in food. But they do use the sinks, we want them to clean up, so they have to be in there anyway.”
