Elkhorn’s Gabby Richardson’s had a lot on her mind when she took the court Oct. 12 at the WIAA Division 1 State Individual Tennis Tournament.

The crowd and atmosphere were unlike anything in which Richardson ever played, and the pride of being the first Elkhorn Area High School girls tennis player at state in nine years also weighed on her.

Richardson, who played at No. 1 singles this past season for the Elkhorn Area High School girls tennis team, lost in her only match at state.

The girls state tournament took place Oct.12-14 at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus.

Richardson, a junior, lost 6-3, 6-0 to Kettle Moraine’s Grace Sueflohn in her only match at state. Richardson finished the season with a record of 14-12.
