Postseason begins for spikers, runners

The Big Foot girls volleyball team is off to the second round of the WIAA Division 2 playoffs.

Big Foot advanced to a regional semifinal with a hard-fought 25-16, 25-17, 27-29, 25-17 win over Rock Valley Conference foe in the opener Tuesday night.

The win improved the Chiefs to 26-16 overall and sent them to the semifinal Thursday against top-seeded Lakeside Lutheran. The winner will face either fourth-seeded Lake Mills or fifth-seeded Madison Edgewood in a regional final Saturday night.

 

Demco leads girls CC

Senior Zanzie (Alexandria) Demco finished fourth overall to lead the Big Foot-Williams Bay girls cross country team at Saturday’s RVC Meet at UW-Whitewater.

Big Foot was ninth in the team standings with 208 points. Jefferson won the team title with 56 points, followed by East Troy with 60, McFarland with 85, Brodhead-Juda with 111 and Whitewater with 138.

Senior Evan Rees led the boys in 46th (20:08.9).

Both squads return to action Saturday at the WIAA Division 2 Deerfield Sectional at Cam-Rock Park, Cambridge. The girls’ race starts at 11 a.m., followed by the boys at 11:45.
