HAZEL FISCHER

      Hazel Fischer, 88, of Walworth, passed away Sept. 23, 2017.

Hazel is survived by her son, Joseph Fischer, of Milwaukee; and daughter, Ellen Hudson; son-in-law, Robert Adams; grandson, Joshua Hudson, and granddaughter, Sarah Hudson, all of Chattanooga, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Elmer Fischer, of Walworth; parents Adolph and Ester Neuman, of Lake Mills, and son-in-law, Jon Hudson, of Chattanooga, Tenn.

Hazel was born on July 1, 1929. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1947 and from Milwaukee Lutheran Passavant School of Nursing in 1950. Nursing and her family were her greatest loves. She worked at Milwaukee Hospital in 1953 in the physical therapy department where, the year before, she had spent eight weeks recovering from polio. In 1956, she worked at Watertown Hospital. She was the school nurse at Northwestern Military Academy in Lake Geneva in the 1960s. From 1975 to 1984, she was an operating room nurse at Harvard Hospital then transferred to Lakeland Hospital in Elkhorn in 1984 as an operating room nurse. She finished her nursing career in the late 1990s at Lakeland Hospital as the head of the infection control department during which time her department received a Certificate of Excellence under her leadership.

Besides being a wonderful nurse, Hazel was a very talented seamstress. She sewed almost flawlessly and handcrafted beaded doll sweaters.

Hazel was a member of Faith Lutheran Church of Walworth for 60 years, where she participated in the women’s ministry for many years and also served on the Evangelism Committee.

A visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Faith Lutheran Church, 420 Reed St. in Walworth, followed by a celebration of life at 11 a.m.
