The Elkhorn Area High School girls golf team put up its lowest combined round of the season Sept. 21 in the Southern Lakes Conference Varsity Tournament at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville.

The Elks played Wednesday in a WIAA Division 1 regional tournament at Riverside Golf Course in Janesville.

Elks coach Mark Malvitz said the squad’s goal is to break 200 over nine holes yet this season. The Elks came close to that goal on the back nine at Brighton Dale, posting a 205.

The tournament was contested on Brighton Dale Links’ Blue Spruce course. Afton Malvitz led the Elks with a 101. Rachel Devries finished at 103, Ava Greeley shot a 105 and Payton Ross carded a 115.

Badger’s Holly Murphy won individual medalist honors (83). Union Grove won its fourth consecutive SLC title after shooting a 367 as a team.

The Elks finished with a team score of 414.

Murphy was named the SLC Player of the Year. Union Grove’s Jackie Bianchi and Magen Koch, Wilmot’s Keegan Destree and Waterford’s Aubrie Torhorst earned First Team All-SLC honors.

Afton Malvitz earned Second Team All-SLC honors, along with Union Grove’s Sydney Staaden, Burlington’s Kya Kafar, Waterford’s Maddy Anderson and Badger’s Kayla Kerns.

In the SLC Tournament team standings, Badger finished second (376), Waterford third (384), Burlington fourth (390) and Wilmot fifth (424). Westosha Central finished seventh (464).

In the final, overall conference standings – which take into account regular season dual meets – the Elks and Wilmot tied for fifth. Union Grove won.

The Elks finished second in the SLC Junior Varsity meet Sept. 19 on the Barn Hollow course at Hawk’s View Golf Course in Lake Geneva.

Elkhorn finished with a team score of 176, two strokes behind first-place Union Grove.

Jena Jacobs finished fourth with a score of 42 on the nine-hole course. Grace Christian finished fifth after shooting a 42, and Sarah Franz shot a 44 and finished seventh.

Badger’s Kimmy Chappell won individual medalist honors after shooting a 38.

“It was a great way to end the junior varsity season,” Mark Malvitz said. “We played very well as a team.”
