The East Troy girls tennis team made a little history Monday afternoon.

East Troy blanked visiting Greenfield, 7-0, for its 20th victory to tie last year’s mark as the most in school history.

The Trojans opened the year with a number of new players in the lineup, but they have continued to improve each day, longtime East Troy coach Dave Lindow said.

“(It’s) very satisfying for having six new kids to the varsity,” he said. “It’s been really rewarding watching this group achieve so much.”

Picking up singles victories Monday were Jessica Tess (12-10 overall) at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0; Mikayla Lamping (12-10) at No. 2, 6-1, 7-5; Milena Nelson at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0; and Syd Raddeman (4-2) at No. 4, 6-0, 6-0.

Winning at doubles were Makenzie Lindow-Erin Rice at No. 1, 6-0, 6-0; Allison Slusar-Belle Verbeten at No. 2, 6-0, 6-0; and Emma Scurek-Maddie Peters at No. 3, 7-6 (1), 6-2.

Nelson, in her first varsity season as a senior, improved to 21-2 overall and has won five straight.

“She competes hard in every match and is having a great year,” Lindow said. “She is playing well and could end up on top of the Rock Valley Conference on Thursday.”

The Lindow-Rice duo bounced back from a tough loss to Big Foot to open the week and improved to 22-2 overall – but their coach knows they have bigger plans ahead.

“They have worked hard and love this part of the season,” Lindow said.

Earlier in the week, the Trojans earned a pair of hard-fought 4-3 RVC wins, first over Big Foot on Sept. 12, followed by an identical score at Whitewater on Sept. 14.

Picking up wins over Whitewater were Nelson at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 7-5; Lindow-Rice at No. 1 doubles, 6-1, 6-1; and Slusar-Verbeten at No. 2 doubles, 7-5, 6-2.

Slusar-Verben, who improved to 17-1 Monday and have won 10 straight, also have their sights set on a big finish, Lindow said.

“They really play well together,” he said. “I’m hoping for big things down the stretch for these two.”

Falling to the Whippets were Tess at No. 1 singles, 0-6, 6-2, 5-10; Lamping at No. 2, 2-6, 6-4, 8-10; and Scurek-Peters at No. 3 doubles, 4-6, 4-6.

Posting wins against Big Foot to open the week were Lamping at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 2-6, 10-8; Nelson at No. 2, 6-3, 6-3; Raddeman at No. 3, 7-5, 6-1; and Slusar-Verbeten at No. 2, 6-1, 6-7 (5), 10-3.

Dropping matches to the Chiefs were Tess at No. 1 singles, 1-6, 0-6; Lindow-Rice at No. 1 doubles, 6-3, 5-7, 4-10; and Scurek-Peters at No. 3 doubles, 6-4, 5-7, 5-1.
