Two Fourth Street homes – at 329 S. Fourth St. and 215 N. Fourth St. – have been condemned and are being demolished.
The Delavan Fire Department conducted a practice burn drill on the South Fourth Street home Monday, and the North Fourth Street home is set to be razed.
Public Works Director Mark Wendorf said both home are uninhabitable because of their conditions, and a basement wall in the North Fourth Street home collapsed as a result of heavy rainfall in mid-July.
Asbestos removal has been completed at both homes, according to the city building inspector’s August report.
The owners of the homes have not paid property taxes, and the city has been mowing grass at the properties for about a year, Wendorf said.
The property at 329 S. Fourth St. is owned by Rafael J. Fonseca, of Lake Geneva, according to county property records. Fonseca has not paid taxes on the property since 2012 and owes $10,838 in property taxes. The property was valued at $60,400 in 2017.
The home at 215 N. Fourth St. is owned by Edward and Robert Bogart, of Elkhorn, who has not paid property taxes on the parcel since 2013, according to tax records. They owe $9,397 in back taxes. The property was valued at $101,200 in 2017.
