Hospice seeks volunteers for programs

Aurora at Home Hospice is seeking volunteers for two new programs for its patients and their families, one to record memories and another to connect veterans.

The first new program is in conjunction with Story Corps, where an interview between a family member and the patient is conducted to make a recording of the family’s story and memories.

The second program is Veterans visiting Veterans.

“Many hospice patients who are veterans request that other veterans visit with them because they often feel a connection with them,” Vera Jane Johnson, hospice volunteer coordinator with Aurora at Home, said.

Johnson said veteran volunteers also deliver special certificates of appreciation to veterans for their service, presented on behalf of the hospice organization.

To learn more about the programs – or to become a volunteer with either, or both, stop by Chapel on the Hill, N2440 Ara Glen Dr., Lake Geneva, between 9 and 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 21.

Training and materials required will be provided to volunteers.

For more information call Vera Jane Johnson at (262) 757-2575 or email Vera.Johnson@aurora.org.
