City to light tree in Tower Park on Friday

Delavan’s annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Friday in Tower Park.

The Delavan-Darien High School choir will perform Christmas music and Santa Claus will arrive on a Delavan fire truck.

Mayor Mel Nieuwenhuis will kick off the holiday season by turning on holiday lights and the lights on the downtown Christmas tree.

New this year at the lighting ceremony will be Harley the Christmas Pony and two live toy soldiers. The pony and soldiers will be available for pictures at 5:30 p.m. Harley is sponsored by The Dancing Horses Theater.

Hot chocolate and cookies will be served at Market Street Sandwiches after the tree lighting.

 

Christmas open house

Downtown businesses also will participate in a Christmas open house Saturday featuring holiday activities and sales.

Santa Claus will be at Bradley’s Department Store from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. During the holiday season, Santa’s hours are 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 8 and Dec. 15.
