Cross country season up and running

The new-look Big Foot-Williams Bay boys and girls cross country teams got their 2017 seasons started Aug. 17 at the Palmyra-Eagle Invitational.

Seniors Zanzie Demco and Evan Rees led the young Chiefs’ squads with 12th- and 39th-place finishes, respectively.

Demco posted a time of 21:03.8. She was followed to the finish line by sophomore Samantha Eichmann, 46th (23:49); freshman Tess Gillingham, 76th (26:58.9); sophomore Maya Torrez, 81st (27:37.3); and sophomore Viola Larson, 84th (28:45.5).

Big Foot finished 13th in the team standings with 299 points. Jefferson won the meet with 86 points, followed by Lake Mills with 112, Waukesha South with 114, East Troy with 130 and Palmyra-Eagle with 136.

Rounding out the team scores on the girls’ side were the Stateline Home School Eagles with 153 points, Westosha Central with 175, Deerfield with 205, Clinton with 219, Lomira with 220, Elkhorn with 229 and Waukesha North with 235.

On the boys’ side, Rees finished in 20:25.3, followed by sophomore Daniel Rees, 59th (21:30.3); sophomore Jacob Curtis, 80th (24:07.2); senior Titus Frederick, 84th (26:01.8); freshman Austin Bucholz, 85th (26:03.6); and freshman Jonathan Ocampo, 87th (29:15.4).

The Big Foot boys were 13th in the team standings with 347 points.

Elkhorn was first with 51 points, followed by Jefferson with 74, East Troy with 83, Deerfield with 153 and the Stateline Home School Eagles with 154.

Rounding out the team scores were Palmyra-Eagle with 177 points, Westosha Central with 179, Clinton with 181, Lomira with 183, Holy Family with 231, Parkview with 248 and Lake Mills with 277.
