Afton Malvitz finished ninth and led the Elkhorn Area High School girls golf team to a seventh-place finish Aug. 17 in the Taylor Clark Memorial Invitational.

The invite took place on the Blue Spruce course at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville. Clark passed on in August of 2013 from a rare form of ovarian cancer. She played golf at Westosha Central for four seasons, including time as a team captain.

The Elks played last Monday in a meet at Prairie Woods Golf Course in Avalon; Union Grove last Wednesday at Evergreen Country Club in a Southern Lakes Conference dual meet, and Burlington last Thursday at Browns Lake Golf Course in a SLC Dual meet.

“I thought the girls played well,” coach Mark Malvitz said of the Clark Invite. “Very windy conditions, and the first match for many of the girls this year. Afton and Ava played very well on varsity. We’re looking to keep improving, and move up in the conference standings.”

Afton Malvitz shot a 98. Ava Greeley finished at 102. Hailey Czubernaut carded a 121, Rachel Devries a 122 and Raven Musgrove shot a 124.

Aubrie Torhorst won individual medalist honors (77). Union Grove finished first in the team standings (373). Elkhorn finished with a team score of 443.

Waterford finished second (388), The Prairie School third (418) and Badger fourth (419). Burlington finished fifth (426), Wilmot sixth (437) and Westosha Central/Shoreland eighth (540).

The Elks finished eighth Aug. 16 in their own Elkhorn Invitational at Evergreen.

The event was a four-person scramble.

Greeley, Afton Malvitz, Grace Christian and Raven Musgrove shot an even par 72 and finished eighth.

Mark Malvitz said Czubernat, Jena Jacobs, Devries and Ali Showalter fell two holes short of completing their round when a different outing went out on the course.

Waterford won the invite with a team score of 63. Union Grove finished third (65), Badger seventh (71), Burlington 10th (76), Wilmot 11th (77) and Westosha Central/Shoreland 12th (94) among fellow SLC schools.

The Elks finished sixth Aug. 14 in the Union Grove Invite at Ives Grove Golf Links in Sturtevant. Mark Malvitz said the format was a two-person shamble, which is a mix of the best ball and scramble formats.

Afton Malvitz and Greeley finished at 92, good for ninth overall. Czubernaut and Christian carded a 105 and finished 13th.

Union Grove’s Megan Koch and Veronica Paro finished first with a score of 75. The Broncos won the invite with a score of 157.

Elkhorn scored 197. Oak Creek finished second (164), Burlington third (187) and Badger fourth (190). Racine Case finished fifth (191), Racine St. Catherine’s seventh and Wilmot eighth (210).
