The Town and Village of East Troy police departments are participating in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Aug. 18 to Sept. 30.

Drive Sober Or Get Pulled Over is a national enforcement campaign aimed at reducing alcohol-related crashes, which killed 143 people in Wisconsin last year alone. 588 people died on Wisconsin roads in 2016.

“Impaired drivers will be arrested,” Town of East Troy Police Chief Don Jensen said. “The best way to avoid arrest is to not operate your vehicle impaired. Be responsible, don’t drink and operate your vehicle. Choose to have a designated driver. If you don’t want to get arrested for drunk driving, don’t drink and drive.”

Village of East Troy Police Chief Alan Boyes agreed, “Just like it says, drive sober or we’re going to pull you over.”

Boyes said national campaigns like this one and the seatbelt, traffic and OWI grants the department participates in throughout the year are very important because they highlight police efforts.

“But what I really want people to know is that we’re out there every day looking after the public’s safety,” Boyes said. “We take the job of keeping the public safe very seriously and we are out there all the time.”
