Genoa City teen gets stayed jail sentence for distributing images of sexual encounter

A Genoa City teenager received a stayed sentence of nine months in jail for his role in a sexual encounter with a schoolmate and circulating images of the tryst.

Tias L. Larson, 18, was sentenced Aug. 4 to nine months in jail with work-release privileges on each of three counts to which he pleaded guilty – sex with a child 16 years or older; possession of harmful material while exposing a child to the material; and exposing his genitals to a child close in age. Larson pleaded guilty to the three misdemeanor charges in exchange for the dismissal of a felony charge against him – child sexual exploitation through the use of videos and records by a person younger than 18 years old.

The three nine-month sentenced are to run concurrently and were stayed, meaning Larson won’t have to serve them unless he violates conditions of his probation. Conditions include having no contact with the victim or her family or residence and no contact with the co-actor in the incident, Blake L. Dodd, 17, of Lake Geneva. Dodd is charged with the felony offense, which carries maximum penalties of 12 ½ years in prison and $25,000 in fines, that was dismissed against Larson. He is scheduled to go on trial next month.

During Larson’s Aug. 4 sentencing hearing, he apologized to the girl’s family and made a tearful statement, according to online court records.

Larson and Dodd were Badger High School students who allegedly had nonconsensual sex with a then-16-year-old girl, also a Badger student, when they were 16 years old. They allegedly videotaped and photographed the encounter and then shared the images with other students.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl invited Dodd to her home Feb. 19, 2016, to hang out and watch a movie. Dodd brought Larson, and the two boys simultaneously had sex with the girl, the complaint alleges.

According to the criminal complaint, the girl told police Dodd and Larson took turns having intercourse with her while the other forced her to perform oral sex and then repeatedly switched positions. The girl said the boys would say “switch” before they switched positions and were laughing and “high-fiving” during the incident, according to the complaint.

The incident occurred Feb. 19, 2016, and the girl discovered Feb. 26, 2016, that people around Badger High School were talking about having seen pictures and videos of the encounter that she did not know existed, according to the complaint.
