Lyric Opera celebrates My Fair Lady with students

The Lake Geneva Chapter Lyric Opera of Chicago sponsored 134 area seventh grade students in a recent trip to Chicago and the opportunity to see My Fair Lady.

“As many students boarded the train at Harvard and Woodstock for the trip into the city, changing landscapes and exposure to new venues made for an exciting, packed day,” a release about the trip states.

According to organizers, students were overheard commenting it was their first trip to Chicago on a train and their first musical.

The train arrived at Ogilvie station with a short window to move students and chaperones across the river to the Lyric Opera House of Chicago, which was filled with students, teachers and chaperones from all over the Chicagoland area.

“The students nestled in their box seats and as the curtain rose they were automatically engaged in the performance and showed appreciation for the singing, dancing and stage design. The energy in the theatre was vibrant,” the release states.

Vivian Fabbro Keenan, president of the Lake Geneva chapter said it has sponsored more than 500 students so they could experience a performance at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

The chapter funds the bus and train transports, tickets and food stipend.

Next year the Chapter plans to send 450 area students to an opera at the Lyric Opera of Chicago.

“Member donations make this impactful trip possible. These field trips open musical, educational and worldly horizons to the students,” the release states.

The mission of the Lake Geneva Chapter Lyric Opera of Chicago is to educate membership, promote the advancement of opera within the community and to generate financial, volunteer and audience support for our Chapter and Lyric Opera of Chicago.

Boasting nearly 175 dues paying members “our objective is to educate, enjoy exquisite music, good company, fine food and lots of smiles and laughs,” the release states.
