Whitewater’s Smith to receive Making Democracy Work award

The League of Women Voters-Whitewater Area has announced that Whitewater City Clerk Michele Smith, will receive the League’s third annual Making Democracy Work award.

Smith has served as Whitewater City Clerk since September 2000.

“Over the past 12 years she has managed countless elections for the community with integrity and administrative professionalism,” said the local League of Women Voters.

“This year Smith steered Whitewater through an unprecedented six elections. Thanks to Smith’s fair-mindedness, efficiency and competence, the entire Whitewater electorate benefits every Election Day knowing their vote counts because it will be counted.”

Smith will be presented with the award on Sunday, Dec. 9 at the League’s Holiday Dinner at Whitewater Country Club.       In addition to the ceremony and dinner, the League is hosting the Madrigal Singers of Whitewater High School who will share a short program of songs.

Cocktails begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner is at 6 p.m. and the program begins at 7 p.m.

Reservations are required by Dec. 3.
