Take a walk through the cemetery, revisit the past

As part of the Village of Walworth’s 175th anniversary celebration, a Cemetery Walk & Re-visitation will be held at the Walworth Center Cemetery, County Highway B, Walworth, on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m.

Local residents will tell about their ancestors or old Walworth families including Bruce Thompson speaking on Richard Earl and Mary Munn Thompson; Lynn Schaid Lottig on the William M. Schaid family; David and Joe Rowbotham on Norris and Jo Helen Wells Rowbotham; Mary Stopple Jordan on the Stopple family; Louise Bilyea Sannes on the Bilyea family; Mary Kay Lee Nordmeyer on Albert H. Bottlemy; and Loren Morris on the Asa L. Maxon family. Other old families will be mentioned in the cemetery walk booklet.

Diana Bird, tombstone decipherer and grave dowser will demonstrate her skills at old burial sites. The Walworth County Genealogical Society will have their local cemetery books with lists of burials for sale and the Historical Society of Walworth & Big Foot Prairie, assisted by the Samuel Phoenix Chapter DAR, will have an informational table.

There is no charge to attend the Cemetery Walk but attendees are asked to park in the parking lots at nearby shopping centers or in the Walworth State Bank parking lot.
