Celebrating the nation’s independence

For anyone looking for something to do during the Fourth of July week, there are plenty of events and activities to choose from in East Troy, where Independence Day is celebrated in style with a parade, fireworks displays, carnival and more.

East Troy  hosted the first formal Fourth of July celebration in Walworth County in 1837 and the East Troy Lions Club continue the tradition with its annual festival from June 29 to July 2 at the Rossmiller Sports Complex and Skate Park, 3072 Graydon Ave. (next to the East Troy Lions Public Library).

The parade, which attracts spectators from far and wide, steps off at 1 p.m. on July 2.

Other activities planned by the Lions include the return of the popular carnival, food, truck and tractor pulls and more. The East Troy Beer Tent is the largest in the area and features Miller products. The tent hosts multiple music acts during the event.

The carnival is open from 5 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Sunday. Daily wristbands are $15 in advance and $25 at the festival. Megabands are $40 in advance and $50 at the festival. Ride tickets are $1 each or 30 for $25. Discounted armbands can be purchased in advance at Gus’s Drive-In, Rhode’s Towing and Repair, Citizens Bank in Piggly Wiggly, Citizens Bank – East Brook office, and First Citizens Bank.

The Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pulls will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Amusement Park Grandstand.

The Kettle Moraine Classic Car Club and the East Troy Lions Club will host their 16th annual car show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 1, at East Troy Middle School, 3143 Graydon Ave.

Dash plaques will be awarded to the first 150 cars. Club participation is welcome. Grass parking. The event will feature food, music, 50/50 raffle and more.
