Safety improvement on Rock Freeway over Highway 20 set to begin Monday

Overlay treatment will improve road surface

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin a safety improvement project Monday, June 19, on Interstate 43 over Highway 20, in East Troy. Crews will be installing a polymer overlay on the bridge.

The benefits of this friction surface treatment are:

  • Reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities;
  • Produce negligible environmental impacts;
  • Short installation time has minimal impact on traffic; and
  • Extends the service life of the bridge

The work will involve both daytime and nighttime single lane closures in each direction. The contractor, Michels Corp., plans on completing improvement to this area by the end of the week. The schedule of work is weather dependent and subject to change.
