JOSEPH R. SCHROEDER

Joseph Richard Schroeder, 84, of Palmyra, passed away at his home in Jefferson April 22, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was born on June 2, 1932, in Barrington, Ill., to William and Catherine (Wagener) Schroeder, a hard working family with six children, who instilled in him a work ethic that stayed with him all of his life. He took his work ethic into his career as a journeyman Pattern Maker and craftsman. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean War where he learned his trade. He married Karen Margaret Wickler on June 27, 1959, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Palmyra. Joe and Karen were longtime residents of Palmyra and for many years enjoyed their winters with their friends and family in Wauchula, Fla. Joe owned and operated Kettle Moraine Patterns.

Joe will live in spirit in the beautiful pieces of furniture made for his loved ones and the homes he built. Joe will be remembered by many for his creativity, his sense of humor and his love of family. He loved “tasting” the latest creation from the kitchen. He loved the annual fishing trips to Canada and vacations in Florida. He was always interested in the lives of others. He was always a tease and could bring on a smile with his sense of humor especially during his many hospitalizations. Joe was a provider and great role model for his family. Karen and Joe were long time members of St. Mary’s Parish in Palmyra and new members of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Community in Jefferson.

Joe will be deeply missed by his wife, Karen of 57 years; his children, James (Juanita), Duane (Beth), Lisa (Abdi Omar), Joel (Jen); his 13 grandchildren and his one great-grandson. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Catherine and siblings, Kay (Geske), Joan (Lalor), Clarence, Marie (Wilson) and William.

Memorial mass will be at 11 a.m. June 3 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 919 W Main St., in Palmyra with the Rev. Mariadas Bekala officiating, with Military Honors to follow the Mass.

Visitation will be at the church from 9 to 11 a.m.
