Traveling war memorial to stop in Williams Bay

The Williams Bay United Church of Christ, will host “Wisconsin Remembers: A Face For Every Name” – a traveling exhibit provided through the Wisconsin Veterans Museum.

The exhibit features a photo for each of the 1,161 Wisconsinites officially listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. It also includes additional photos for names that are listed on The Highground Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Neillsville.

“Wisconsin Remembers” is a tribute to lost life and lost potential, a press release about the exhibit states.

The photos featured were been collected by volunteers from throughout Wisconsin over the past eight years. Friends and family of those who were killed in Vietnam submitted photos, as did students, teachers and others who simply wanted to put a face to the names listed on the Wall in D.C. The images they found help tell the stories of the men and women who are listed on the Wall as part of a new Education Center the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund is building on the National Mall.

Wisconsin was just the fifth state in the nation to find a photo for every resident listed on the Wall.

The 17-panel exhibit will be on display at the United Church of Christ, 46 Stam St. in Williams Bay on Saturday, May 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

In addition to viewing “Wisconsin Remembers”, the United Church of Christ invites attendees to tour the church building, view the display highlighting 121 years of ministry and enjoy an ice cream sundae.

“The UCC is proud to be one of 15 stops on the ‘Wonders of Williams Bay Historical Tour’ sponsored by the Williams Bay Historical Society,” the release states.
