The Whippets recently recorded eight wins in a quadrangular, earning them a tie for the top spot.

The April 29 quadrangular had Whitewater tie Edgerton for the top spot.

“Once again, the top portion of our lineup played very well,” Whippet head coach Jordan Dittmer said. “Our No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles took first place. We were missing a few guys, so we had to make some adjustments at the bottom of our lineup. The people we put in played very hard throughout the tournament.”

Both the first-place No. 1 singles player, Dineth Gunawardena, and the No. 1 doubles team of Justin Brantmeier and Michael Fernandez, went 2-0 in the tournament. Gunawardena won his singles matches in nearly perfect fashion, 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-1.

For Brantmeier and Fernandez, the duo had a more strenuous road, but won their matches, 6-3, 7-2 (2) and 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-7. Rounding out singles for the Whippets was No. 2 player Cole Kinson, who went 1-1 in his two matches, No. 3 player Johaly Xochipa who also went 1-1 and No. 4 player Joseph Creanza, who went 2-0.

Creanza won his first match in a forfeit, and his second, 6-1, 6-3. In doubles, no other Whippet team won a match outside of the top team of Brantmeier-Fernandez.

After Whitewater and Edgerton in the quadrangular results, Wilmot and Delavan-Darien followed with seven and five wins, respectively.

The next meet for Whitewater is set for 4:30 p.m. on May 5 at home against McFarland. Following that matchup, the Whippets then have another 4:30 p.m. contest on May 8, also at home, against East Troy.
