Derek Davey won three events and led the Elkhorn Area High School boys track & field team to a first-place finish April 28 in the Altheimer Invitational at Pewaukee High School.

The girls finished seventh. The Elks compete Friday in an invitational at Edgerton High School.

Davey won the 400-meter run (50.12) and 800 (1:58.71), and ran with Sam Divarco, Devon Davey and Kevin Romero on the Elks’ first-place 4×200 relay (1:38.23).

Caleb Hembree, Ben Tuescher, Arandu Huerta and Divarco won the 4×800 relay (8:26.96).

Daehn finished second in the long jump (19-10) and triple jump (40-11). Evan Blanton finished second in the shot put (46-11). Tuescher finished third in the 1,600 (4:52.13).

The 4×800 relay is the first and the 4×400 relay is the last event of each meet, and winning each event gave Elkhorn a boost.

“Winning those two events always gives us a quick start and a great anchor event, especially in a meet that was a close as this meet was,” Simonson said. “We are also getting better in all of our field events, which will be extremely important as we prepare for the conference meet.”

Gabby Pinnow finished second in the high jump (5 feet) and third in the 400 (1:02.72) for the Elkhorn girls.

Katie Hickey finished second in the pole vault (9 feet) and Isabella Ewan finished second in the 100 (12.82).

Kassie Thompson finished second in the 300 hurdles (51.34) and fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.51). Madison Page finished third in the long jump (15-00.75).

“We had several girls that were fighting injuries, and a few that had to miss this meet, which forced us to work on our depth,” Simonson said. “Now we need to get healthy, and figure out our best lineup as we enter into our biggest meets.”

The Elkhorn boys scored 111.50 points, and narrowly edged second-place Plymouth (106). The Elks girls scored 77.50 points. New Berlin Eisenhower scored 110.50 and won the girls meet.
