The Elks scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and beat arch-rival Delavan-Darien 5-4 April 28 in a Southern Lakes Conference softball game at Elkhorn.
The Elks played a SLC game Monday at home against Badger, and played a SLC doubleheader at home Tuesday against Waterford (2-9, 0-5 SLC).
The Elks played a SLC game Wednesday at Badger (8-5, 3-5 SLC), and play Delavan-Darien today in a SLC game at Darien.
Elkhorn plays a doubleheader Saturday in Racine against St. Catherine’s (0-4).
The Elks lost both games of a SLC doubleheader at home April 25 against Westosha Central. Elkhorn lost the first game lost 3-2 and second game 10-3.
Morgan Hunter’s RBI double scored Izzy Regner and Mackenzie Shawback in the bottom of the eighth for the win against the Comets.
Regner led-off the inning by drawing a walk. Shawback also drew a walk before a Delavan-Darien loaded the bases.
Anna Bechtel grounded into a fielder’s choice before Hunter doubled to short right field and ended the game.
Delavan-Darien tied the game in the bottom of the seventh inning, and led for the only time after scoring two runs with a bases-loaded double in the eighth.
Regner threw a complete game and allowed the Comets (6-8, 2-5 SLC) eight hits and struck out six. Hunter went 4-for-5 with three RBI.
The victory against Delavan-Darien is the Elks’ first in SLC play this season. The Comets entered the game against the Elks ranked seventh in Division 2 in the latest Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association state poll.
Westosha Central (14-1, 10-0 SLC) entered the doubleheader against the Elks as the No. 4-ranked team in Division 1.
