In the first of its three meets last week, the Whippets golf team completed its lowest round of the season so far.

In the meet at Jefferson, the team scored a 187.

Also in the April 20 meet, Junior Billie Jo Parker led the team with her 43, while Jake Walton, Whitney Treder and Johnathan Swaffer followed closely behind each other with their scores of 47, 48 and 49, respectively.

Following the Whippets’ first meet, the team then competed in an invitational on April 24 at Geneva National Golf Club.

“The team golfed on the Arnold Palmer designed, 18-hole portion of Geneva National Golf Club,” Whippet head coach Chris Wiegman said. “Beautiful weather accompanied the team as they finished with a team score of 408. Turning in the low round on the team was senior captain Jake Walton, who carded a 97. Junior Billie Jo Parker scored a 102. Senior Whitney Treder turned in a score of 104. Sophomore Johnathan Swaffer rounded out the team scoring, carding a 105.”

The team’s showing in the large invitational then propelled the Whippets to its latest meet, on April 25. The team hosted its conference meet at Whitewater Country Club, and scored a 205, finishing in fourth out of six teams.

Walton led the team this time around with his 48, while a freshman in Josiah Swaffer – making his varsity debut – finished right behind with his 49. Parker, Johnathan Swaffer and Tommy Cushman each carded 54s to complete Whitewater’s scoring.

The Whippets will complete the conference portion of its season with meets at Edgerton on May 1 and at Evansville on May 4. The team will then participate in an invitational on May 8 before competing in the Rock Valley Conference Meet set for May 13.
