Track squads take second at SLC Relays

The Elkhorn Area High School boys and girls track & field teams each finished second April 11 in the Southern Lakes Conference Varsity Relays at Badger High School in Lake Geneva.

Elkhorn competed April 13 in a triangular at Badger, and competes Friday in an invitational at Brodhead High School.

The boys scored 103 points and finished second to Badger (116.5) and the girls scored 96 points and finished second to Waterford (114) in the SLC Relays.

The Elkhorn boys won five events and the girls two.

“Our boys showed amazing improvement in the sprint relays over last season, winning the 4×200-meter relay and finishing 3rd in the 4×100 relay,” coach Steve Simonson said. “The boys 4×400 relay won big with a great, early season time.”

Devon Davey, Bryant Romero, Kevin Romero and Caden Reece won the 4×200 relay in 1:36.92. Devon Davey, Justin Zoellner, Sam Divarco and Derek Davey won the 4×400 relay in 3:35.44.

Tyler Daehn, Chris Sattler and Lucas Koepke combined to win the 110-meter hurdles relay, with Daehn winning the event (16.51). The Elks’ Alex Hergott won the high jump relay (5-9).

Marrius O’Malley, Reece, Devon Davey and Derek Davey finished second in the 800 sprint medley relay (1:39.43) and Ben Tuescher, DiVarco, Devon Davey and Caleb Jacques-Hembree finished second in the 1,600 sprint medley relay (11:12.77).

Chris Sattler, Lucas Koepke and Ben Brauer finished third in the 300-meter hurdles medley.

Marius O’Malley, Bryant Romero, Kevin Romero and Reece finished third in the 4×100 relay (46.88).

Evan Blanton, Walker Meyer and Tyler Ellsworth finished third in the discus relay and Jack Flitcroft, Meyer and O’Malley finished third in the pole vault relay.

Daehn, Justin Zoellner and Nick Harvey finished third in the triple jump relay.

“Our girls used their strength in the sprints, hurdles and jumping events to make another strong showing against the other conference schools,” Simonson said. “Kassie Thompson was the top hurdler of the night, winning the 100-meter hurdles and finishing a very close second in the 300-meter hurdles.”

Thompson won the 100-meter hurdles (17.50) and combined with Taylor Bikowski and Sarah Broga to win the relay.

Isabella Ewan, Gabby Pinnow and Madison Page won the long jump relay, with Ewan winning the event (15-5).

Pinnow, Julia Heck and Thompson finished second in the high jump relay.

Page, Megan Pauley, Ewan and Pinnow finished second in the 1,600 sprint medley relay (1:57.29) and Tiffany Orin, Page, Ewan and Pinnow finished second in the 800 sprint medley relay.

Katie Hickey, Hailey Czubernaut and Tiffany Orin finished third in the pole vault relay.

In the remaining team scores for the boys, Waterford finished third (91), Westosha Central fourth (90), Wilmot fifth (79), Burlington sixth (56.5) and Union Grove seventh (22).

For the girls, Badger finished third (92), Westosha Central fourth (91), Wilmot fifth (86), Burlington sixth (58) and Union Grove seventh (34).
