Immediately following the Village of East Troy Plan Commission’s April 10 vote to recommend the site plan for the archery range, Village Board President and Plan Commission Chairman Randy Timms announced he was leaving the meeting and walked out.

“I’m going to do something a little bit unusual, the rest of the items here are going forward for either future Plan Commission or future Village Boards to decipher so I’m going to step down and the Plan Commission can appoint whomever it chooses to carry the rest of the meeting,” Timms said before leaving the meeting with a “good night” to everyone in attendance.

Village Administrator Eileen Suhm immediately requested the board make a motion to appoint a new chairperson for the meeting. Incoming Village Board President and Village Trustee Scott Seager was appointed chairman.

Last week, Seager said he was “shocked” at Timms’ sudden departure from the meeting and had no advance warning of what was going to happen.

Tuesday morning Timms said the reason he left was because he had looked at the agenda and the only item on it that he had any input in was the archery range and he wanted to see that through.

“The other items on the agenda were for future Plan Commission and/or Village Board to decide on and I figured my input wasn’t going to be pertinent for further decisions, therefore I turned the meeting over to Scott and they continued on.”

The archery range plans were on the agenda for the April 10 meeting because the Plan Commission had tabled a decision on the plans at the March 13 meeting because some of the commission members had questions and concerns about safety issues at the site.

According to the minutes from the March 13 meeting, the commission discussed different options of approving the project subject to coming back for approval of the rear wall height and having experts come to the next meeting to discuss safety concerns. The commission also requested a detailed report from the engineer regarding design and safety.

The Plan Commission approved the site plan for the archery range, which will be on Energy Drive.
