The City of Whitewater will continue to be a title sponsor for the Discover Whitewater Series Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay and 5K.

“The Discover Whitewater Series is one of the many unique things the City of Whitewater has to offer,” said Cameron Clapper, city manager. “We are all proud of what the race has achieved for the community in the past four years and we look forward all the great things to come from this year.”

The Discover Whitewater Series, which takes place on Sept. 17, is a race meant to explore the City of Whitewater and allow participants to enjoy the picturesque landscape it has to offer. One of the main goals of the series is to promote the city and highlight its features, while keeping everyone in the community active. This sponsorship and its partnership with the Whitewater Aquatic and Fitness Center allows the DWS to achieve its goal.

Once the race is over participants may use their free day pass provided by the Aquatic Center. The features include a lazy river, water slide and lap pool. It is open on the day of the race to participants from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“When we share an experience like the DWS, it lifts us up out of our everyday lives — whether running in the event or volunteering to make a difference—not only do we connect with the people areound us, but also connect to the community we’re in,” said Michelle Dujardin, recreation and community events coordinator of Whitewater.

“The City of Whitewater and the Aquatic Center’s help has been crucial to making the race possible. Everyone has enjoyed the passes given out and we’re happy they have extended this kindness to us again this year,” said Jeffery Knight, Discover Whitewater Series executive.

The series is in its fifth year. All the proceeds from the race are donated to five local non-profit partners: Bethel House (which provides interim housing for homeless families), University of Wisconsin-Whitewater athletics, Working for Whitewater’s Wellness (W3), Whitewater Unified School District and the J-Hawk Aquatic Club.

The Discover Whitewater Series partners with the city, business community, university and the school district to have the event. For more information about the race visit runwhitewater.com. For general race inquiries email info@runwhitewater.com.
