Gov. Walker to visit East Troy High School on Monday

Gov. Scott Walker is interviewed by Delavan Enterprise Editor Vicky Wedig last year. Walker will tour East Troy High School on Monday morning.

Governor Scott Walker will visit East Troy High School on March 20. He is scheduled to be in the building from about 8:55 to 10 a.m.

According to a press release from the School District, the governor’s visit will include a tour of the high school’s innovation spaces and an address to a group comprised of students from the school’s student government and student cabinet, some faculty, administrators, and the School Board.

“Truly, this is an opportunity to highlight East Troy Community School District and our shift throughout our district to personalized learning environments for the betterment of student engagement and student learning growth. In addition, the governor’s visit to our school will allow us to show the renovations throughout the high school, including the Fab Lab,” District Superintendent Chris Hibner wrote in a letter to the parents of the high school students.

The visit happened quickly with the School Board having to hold a special meeting on Tuesday night to approve the governor’s visit and another special meeting on Thursday night to finalize some of the details of the visit.

In the parent letter, Hibner stressed that the governor was “visiting our school in his capacity as governor, not as a candidate for office. As such, the visit was approved by the School Board according to district policy, and we look forward to sharing our accomplishments, goals, and challenges with the governor.

“It is important to note that we believe our district was selected for a visit because of all the great work students and faculty have been doing in our schools. The upcoming visit of the governor is just another example of our district being recognized because of the great work being conducted by the district, staff, and students.”

The event will not be open to the public, but the East Troy Times and other media outlets have been invited to attend. See next week’s edition of the East Troy Times for more information on the governor’s visit.
