Home catches fire in Town of Geneva

A house on Oak Road in the Town of Geneva caught fire Monday, and its residents escaped without harm.

The Lake Geneva Fire Department responded to N3393 Oak Road at about 10:30 p.m. Monday and found a single-family home with fire showing on an exterior wall, according to the department.

Residents had evacuated and Town of Geneva police officers had knocked down some of the flames with a fire extinguisher before firefighters arrived. However, the fire spread into the walls and roof, according to the department.

During suppression and overhaul operations, firefighters tracked down remaining hot spots and extinguished the fire. The home also sustained smoke and water damage.

The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation. Crews were back in quarters at 1:05 a.m. Tuesday.
