Just 10 days prior, Delavan-Darien High School’s boys basketball team played Elkhorn at home and lost, 61-42. The team was at 9-4 overall going into that game, and after the team’s next game it played – which resulted in a loss – the Comets then owned a 9-6 record going into this past week.

Ten days after playing Elkhorn the first time, the Comets got its shot at redemption – this time on the road. The team had a week to prepare for the Elks as it was the team’s only game of the week, but the outcome the second time around proved to not be much different.

Elkhorn ended the first half with a 29-21 advantage and then in the second half, outscored the Comets by 14. The game ended with the Elks winning, 64-42.

Elkhorn made 25 shots from the field and went 12-of-19 from the free throw line to earn the bulk of its points. The 42 points scored by the Comets marked the lowest it has scored all season – alongside the 42 points the team scored against Elkhorn the first time.

Since the team’s 9-4 start, the Comets haven’t reached the 60-point mark offensively and have lost three straight games. The team was in third-place of the Southern Lakes Conference standings two weeks ago, but is now currently in fourth, tied with two other teams at 4-5 in conference play.

The Comets now have six games remaining on its regular season schedule with its final five opponents being a part of the Southern Lakes Conference. The first game on the schedule – and last of the non-conference schedule – is slated to start at 7 p.m. on Feb. 7 against Jefferson at home.

Following the Jefferson game, the team will again be at home for another 7 p.m. contest against Union Grove on Thursday. The team will then play its third-straight home game at 7 p.m. Monday against Badger High School.

Coming into this week, Jefferson owns a 6-10 overall record while Union Grove and Badger are 8-8 and 4-11, respectively. The Comets haven’t faced Jefferson or Badger yet this season but defeated Union Grove on Dec. 9, 68-58.
