Police shoot and kill Lake Geneva man

Kris Kristl

Police officers shot and killed a 26-year-old Lake Geneva man Thursday in the Town of Geneva while investigating a reckless driving complaint.

Police shot and killed Kris Kristl, 26, at County Highway H near Petrie Road at about 7:45 p.m., according to a press release issued Friday by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department and the Elkhorn Police Department.

According to the release, a two-year deputy with the sheriff’s department and an eight-year officer with Elkhorn police were involved in the shooting. The departments did not name the officers or say which or whether both of them fired at Kristl. Both are on administrative duty, which is standard practice with these types of incidents, according to the release.

The Wisconsin Department of Justice, Division of Criminal Investigation, will investigate the shooting.
