Two men are charged with burglarizing a home on Mound Road in Delavan, stealing a large-screen TV and lying to police about the theft.

Jose Bonilla Aranda, 68, and Miguel A. Moreno, 31, both of Delavan, were charged Dec. 12 in Walworth County Circuit Court with burglary of a building or dwelling and misdemeanor theft, both as a party to a crime, and obstructing an officer.

Moreno pleaded not guilty to the charges Dec. 20 and is scheduled for a status conference Feb. 9.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday for Aranda.

According to the criminal complaint, a Pioneer Landscaping employee flagged down a Town of Delavan police officer after he saw two men leaving a house next door to the business carrying a large-screen TV. The employee said he knew the renters of the house were not home, and saw the two men walk west on Mound Road carrying the TV.

The officer turned west onto Highway 11 and saw two men walking along the road, and the man later identified as Moreno was carrying a large television set, according to the complaint. When the officer approached the men, Moreno put the television down and told the officer his “dad,” whom he identified as Aranda, bought the TV. Aranda told police the TV was from his friend, Hector’s house, whose last name he did not know, and he had permission to take it, according to the complaint. Aranda told another officer he didn’t know Moreno but saw him walking along the road with a TV and walked with him, according to the complaint.

Moreno initially told police his name was Jose Jr. and he was with Jose Sr. He denied having anything to do with the theft of a television. When an officer told Moreno he saw him carrying the TV, he denied touching it, according to the complaint.

Moreno was taken to a hospital for clearance because he smelled like alcohol and was belligerent toward an officer and hospital staff, according to the complaint. Moreno eventually calmed down and told a hospital staff member his real name, according to the complaint.

The tenant of the home, Hector Langunez, said no one had permission to take his TV.
