After starting the season at 3-3 overall, the Whitewater High School boys soccer team lost its next three matches. The Whippets have played a difficult schedule, going against several Division 1 opponents along the way.

This past week, the team participated in just one match, against a tougher Division 3 school in Big Foot/Williams Bay, who entered with a 6-2 record. Whippets head coach John Chenoweth talked about not only the match, but the difficulties of fighting off the injury bug.

“The Whippets hit the pitch knowing we were going to need a few new guys to step up and solid play from our veterans as we were missing five varsity players due to injuries and illnesses,” he said. “It was a fairly even battle throughout but Big Foot/Williams Bay went up 1-0 halfway through the first half when the ref called a penalty in the box and awarded a penalty kick.”

Fifteen minutes after the 1-0 deficit, Roberto Navejas scored for the Whippets to tie the score. In the second half, the team was aggressive according to Chenoweth, but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Big Foot/Williams Bay scored the lone second half goal, wrapping up the 2-1 victory. Chenoweth said it was a tougher loss because every player left it all on the field.
