The Greater Whitewater Committee’s 4th Annual Discover Whitewater Series, held Sept. 18, featured a Half Marathon, Half Marathon Relay, 5k and W3’s Fit Kid Shuffle through the scenic City of Whitewater. On race day, the GWC and DWS planning committee were joined by 771 participants and 400 volunteers as well as 80 sponsors for “another successful series event,” according to organizers.

“The weather couldn’t have been better, and the changes implemented to enhance the runners’ experience were received quite well,” a press release stated.

The main goals of the annual Discover Whitewater Series are to build a stronger community and showcase the City of Whitewater. All proceeds from the event are put directly back into the community each year.

The featured change this year was to bring more spectators to the finish line area in order to enhance the runners’ experience. The awards ceremony was moved adjacent to track, live music was hosted in the same area, and the W3 Fit Kid Shuffle was moved to start/finish behind the grandstand. The Whitewater Whippet Booster Club also served food out the concessions stand in this area.

“The results from this enhancement proved wonderful. More people filled the stands to cheer on runners as they crossed the finish line, and many family members stayed in the area to enjoy the high-energy atmosphere,” the release stated.

The Greater Whitewater Committee and Discover Whitewater Series “would like to thank everyone involved with making this fourth year a success. The Whitewater community is a great place to visit, live, and work, and we will showcase our wonderful community once again at our next Discover Whitewater Series on Sept. 17, 2017. We hope everyone will join us.”
