Growing pains and on-the-job training will be ongoing themes for the Elkhorn Area High School girls golf team this season.

The Elks are an inexperienced bunch, and are competing in a conference in which coach Steve Fisher said a few teams are already flexing their muscle early in the season.

“It’s going to be a challenge because the other schools in our conference are going to be tough,” Fisher said. “We definitely have our work cut out for us.”

The Elks finished seventh in the Taylor Clark Memorial Invitational Aug. 18 at Brighton Dale Links in Kansasville. Elkhorn’s top four posted a team score of 471.

Carlie Hanson led the Elks with a 100. Ava Greeley scored 116 and Ryley Rand scored a 120. Payton Ross tallied a 135 and Hailey Czubernaut finished at 136.

Waterford’s Taitum Beck won individual medalist honors (77). The Prairie School of Wind Point won the team title (343).

Union Grove finished second (356), Waterford third (373), Wilmot fourth (393) and Westosha Central/Shoreland Lutheran fifth (403). Badger finished sixth (408) and Burlington eighth (485).

The Elks finished eighth Aug. 15 in the Union Grove Scramble at Ives Grove Golf Links in Ives Grove. Elkhorn posted a team score of 185. Greeley & Hanson finished with a score of 85 and Grace Christian and Jena Jacobs finished at 100.
