Woman killed walking along Highway 50

A sport utility vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian along Highway 50 in the Town of Geneva at about 11:25 p.m. Tuesday.

A 54-year-old Illinois woman, whom police had not identified as of Wednesday morning pending notification of family, was hit by an SUV about 100 yards east of Chapin Road after leaving The Ridge Hotel.

The woman was found in the eastbound lane of traffic near the fog line, according to Town of Geneva police. Officers and medical personnel performed life-saving measures, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation revealed the woman had left The Ridge on foot, might have stepped into the right lane of traffic and was struck by 2001 Ford Expedition, according to police.

The driver of the SUV was Christopher S. Robistow, 44, of Genoa City. Robistow immediately pulled over and was cooperative with the investigation, including submitting to a blood draw, which is standard procedure, according to Police Chief Steven Hurley.

The Wisconsin State Patrol responded and is conducting a reconstruction of the accident scene.

The accident remained under investigation Wednesday and no charges had been filed.
