Much of the East Troy Community School District Board of Education’s Aug. 8 meeting was spent discussing staffing at the schools and the early enrollment numbers in the district.

Thirteen new staff members and teachers reported for their introduction to the district Monday and were treated to a tour of the facilities as part of their training.

There has been a flurry of hiring over the summer as teachers often change jobs when school is out. District Administrator Chris Hibner said the market has become very competitive in recent years as teaching positions have become more mobile and the district often has multiple positions to fill each year. He said he was very happy with the new hires.

“What a great group they are,” Hibner said. “They are just so full of energy and excited to be in East Troy. I think we’ve got a great group of people coming in.”

There is still one position at the high school that hasn’t been filled yet, but High School Principal Stacey Kuehn said they were working on finding the right person and the right fit.

Hibner also briefed the board on the activities and training planned for the annual Back-to-School Inservice for teachers at the end of the month, which will include a welcome back breakfast, tour of the new high school addition and renovations and a barbecue lunch.

Early enrollment numbers up

Early enrollment numbers for the 2016-17 school year are up from last year, but Hibner cautioned that they were just that “early numbers” and until the third week in September count, he wasn’t going to start jumping up and down.

“I am optimistic, but the reality is, until we’re in session, we won’t know,” he said. “But if the numbers hold, we’re looking at the 2008-09 numbers. The best we’ve seen in almost a decade.”

Thank you

The board also accepted Monday the 2015-16 school year donations from the East Troy Music Boosters and East Troy All Sports Booster Club.

The All Sports Booster Club donated more than $29,000 to the district last school year, which was used for equipment, upgrades, social events, scholarships and more.

The Music Boosters donated more than $16,000 to the district to helps sponsor the high school band’s trip to Disney, scholarships, instruments, concerts, workshops and more.

Annual meeting set

The School District’s annual meeting will be at 6 p.m. on Monday Sept. 26, at the high school. Because of the work being done on the lecture hall, it is not known at this time which room the meeting will be held in.
