Lake Lawn to salute Independence Day with four-day weekend celebration

Lake Lawn Resort is adorning its grounds with patriotic décor in preparation for this year’s Fourth of July weekend from Friday through Monday.

It will offer daily recreational activities, an outdoor movie viewing, a lakeside cookout and two evenings of fireworks.

Family activities

Kicking off at 10 a.m. Friday, families can expect recreational activities available all weekend including guided lake walks, hula hoop and limbo contests, laser tag, tug-of-war, three-legged races, sand volleyball, tic-tac-toe relays, flickerball, wiffle ball, kickball, capture the flag, a bags tourney, quidditch, obstacle courses, a home run derby and bingo. For those who would rather relax and unwind, yoga will be offered in the fitness center at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

Guests and visitors can also practice their strokes out on Lake Lawn’s 18-hole championship golf course, Majestic Oaks. Between Friday and Monday, a portion of every round of golf will be donated to Stars and Stripes Honor Flight, an organization that flies World War II, Korean War and terminally ill veterans to Washington, D.C., to visit their memorials.

Grill out

Lake Lawn invites guests and visitors to its lakeside holiday cookout, the All American Grill Out, from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday. The spread will include garden and potato salads, hotdogs, bratwursts, barbecue chicken, hamburgers, sweet corn, baked beans, make-your-own strawberry shortcakes, s’mores cupcakes and Lake Lawn’s pink lemonade. Lakeside face painting will be available and balloon artists will be onsite. Tickets to the All American Grill Out are $25 for adults, $15 for children 4 to 12 years old and complimentary for children 3 years old and younger.

An outdoor viewing of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will begin at 8 p.m. on the lawn.

Entertainment

Live music will be featured throughout the resort during this year’s Fourth of July weekend. Listen to rhythmic melodies from Brian Fictum from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Frontier Restaurant. Saturday’s lineup includes New Image from noon to 4 p.m. along the lakefront, Joey Levie from 4 to 8 p.m. on the Lookout Bar and Eatery’s terrace, Terry Sweet from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Frontier Restaurant and Kevin Kennedy from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Lookout Bar and Eatery.

Fireworks

Guests and visitors can also watch two fireworks shows at Lake Lawn Resort. The Town of Delavan will light up the sky over Delavan Lake at dusk Saturday. The City of Delavan will feature fireworks at Veterans Memorial Park at dusk Monday.
