Lon Vernon Erickson, born June 16, 1946, accomplished voyager and student of the world, died May 21, 2016, in his home on the island of Bohol in the Philippines.
Having grown up in East Troy, Lon traveled extensively for work and for joy, and he lived in many countries. He loved art, literature and music and was intrigued by the many types of people he met on his adventures while always maintaining that “No matter where you go, people are people.” Lon once dined with a king but chose to dine within street vendors’ stalls whenever he was able.
Lon’s experiences of the world led him to Bohol where he spent time with his wife, cheerfully and thoughtfully clearing away the jungle from “his ridge” where he took great pride in his work to redirect the flow of nature to fashion his beautiful gardens. In those gardens he frequently held discussions about the how and why of each of his improvements to the land. There he grew most of his own food and reflected on life while meditating in the changing winds and stunning ocean and mountain views.
Lon is survived by his wife Florida, his son Joshua, and many other relatives and friends in Bohol. He is also survived by his sister, Shelley Giesen; his sons, Gabriel and Gustaf; grandchildren, Regan, Eliza and Fisher; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family in the states.
Lon was preceded in death by his son, Evan “Max,” and parents, Stanley and Jeannette Erickson.
A funeral was held in Bohol. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you raise a glass, thank a farmer or immerse in a piece of music in Lon’s name.
