Elkhorn’s Brandon Komar allowed one hit and struck out nine May 17 in a 1-0 victory against Delavan-Darien in a Southern Lakes Conference baseball game at home.

The Elks lost 5-1 to the Comets May 19 at Delavan’s Veterans Park.

Elkhorn (4-11, 4-9 SLC) played non-conference games Monday at Jefferson and Tuesday at Big Foot. The Elks play today at Union Grove in a SLC game.

Elkhorn opens postseason play May 31 with a WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal game at Janesville Parker (8-8). The Elks are seeded 12th and Parker fifth in the 16-team regional bracket. The winner plays June 2 at fourth-seeded Fort Atkinson in the regional final.

Komar one-hit Union Grove April 26 in a 4-0 Elks victory at home.

“What he’s really started doing is throwing his second and third pitches for strikes,” Elks coach Jon Anzalone said. “When he gets that going, it serves him pretty well.”

Komar threw his breaking ball and change-up for strikes against the Comets (8-13, 4-10 SLC). A first-inning single through the infield to right field by Jacob Benzing marks Delavan-Darien’s lone hit.

The Elks scored their only run in the fourth inning. Lucas Harding singled and drove-in Jordan Van Dyke, who reached earlier on a single of his own.

The Elks finished with eight hits. Van Dyke and Ian Nowell each tallied two. Patrick Glogovsky finished with two stolen bases.

Anzalone said the Elks hit well, but hit the ball right at people, in Elkhorn’s 5-1 loss to the Comets.

The Elks took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first. Nowell reached base with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Komar. The Comets scored two runs in the fifth inning and three in the sixth.
