Badger baseball swept by Wilmot

Softball loses to Kettle Moraine, Burlington

The Badger High School baseball team was swept by Wilmot 6-4 and 13-6 on May 12.

In Game One, Badger jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Wilmot scored three in the top of the third, but Badger scored two more in its half of the inning to lead 4-3. The Panthers (8-12, 5-9 Southern Lakes Conference) tied it in the fourth and won it in the fifth with two more runs.

Isaac Ziervogel homered and had two hits overall and three RBIs. Mason DuMez had three singles.

Both teams exploded for four runs each in the first inning of Game Two. Wilmot took control in the bottom of the second plating five more runs. Badger scored twice in the fourth but the Panthers answered with three in their half of the inning and added a single run in the sixth to cap the scoring.

DuMez again had three hits and two RBIs. Brady Fields had two hits, and Grayson Grimsley had one hit and two RBIs. Ryley Orszula led Wilmot going three for four with four RBIs.

The Badgers (4-14, 3-9 Southern Lakes Conference) lost a non-conference matchup at Whitewater 13-7 on Friday.

Both teams plated single runs in the first inning. The Whippets (13-6) took control with three in the second and three more in the third. Badger scored once in the fourth, but Whitewater added two more in its half of the inning. Badger exploded for five in the sixth to draw within 9-7, but Whitewater answered with four runs in its half of the inning. Neither team scored in the seventh.

Tyler Love and Tanner Hagen had two hits apiece for Badger. Sam Lieberand led Whitewater with two hits and three RBIs.

Softball drops two more

The Badger softball team lost a non-conference game at Kettle Moraine 22-1 on May 9. Badger continued a season-long struggle of allowing opposing teams to start strong. Badger took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but Kettle Moraine (13-8) then blitzed the Badgers with eight runs in its half of the first and eight more in the second inning to lead 16-1. The Lasers added six more runs over the next two innings while Sommer Kuntsmann and Claudia Spencer were holding Badger to four hits and just the one run.

Katelyn Yute homered twice for Kettle Moraine and finished with three hits and five RBIs. Abby Varick also homered and had four RBIs.

Leslie Zelinski homered for Badger. Alyssa McKeon, Marissa Nurnberg and Lindsey Bland had the other Badger hits.

Badger lost 13-0 at home to Burlington on May 12. The Badgers were no-hit by Burlington’s Danielle Koenen over five innings. The Demons (13-6, 8-5 SLC) scored twice in the first inning and four times in the second to continue the trend of opposing teams starting strong. Burlington scored one in the fourth and exploded for six in the fifth to finish things off.

Soccer loses three

The Badger soccer team lost three times last week. The offense struggled, failing to score even one goal on the week.

Badger lost at home to Elkhorn (12-0-3, 3-0-1 SLC) 4-0 on May 11. Elkhorn scored on two goals by Olivia May, one by Megan Skoczy-las, and one from Alex Moreno. Each team had nine shots and the Elks only out-shot Badger 8-6 on goal, but the Badgers could never find the back of the net.

Badger also lost at Water-ford 4-0 on May 12. Lexi Ketterhagen scored twice for Waterford (6-8-2, 2-3). Lau-ren Torhorst and Kenzie Malecki scored the other Wolverine goals.

Badger (6-8-2, 1-3-1) lost a non-conference home game to Racine Horlick 2-0 on Friday. Genevieve Cruz scored both goals for Horlick (9-5-4).
